Knockillaree Riding Centre specialises in horse and pony Treks. We offers some of the most beautiful and extensive trails in Connemara. Treks suited for individuals, couples, families and groups of all ages and capabilities.

Our guided treks include a range of trails to suit each individual/group’s interest and riding experience and ability. Treks vary from relaxing and easy to exciting and challenging. Additionally, we have a range of horses and ponies available to suit all levels, and our Centre staff ensure that the correct horse/pony is matched with each rider based on riding standard. We offer trails from one hour upwards, including half day and full day treks. Longer treks include a packed lunch.

Enjoy a guided trek through the scenic woodlands and along the shores of the Lough Corrib, one of the largest lakes in the Republic of Ireland; Or adventure up winding mountain trails to some of the most breath-taking views of the rugged Connemara valleys and hills to experience a landscape that has stood still for thousands of years. You will learn about the geographical development of this unique region from the time of the melting glaciers to the famine ridges that still scar this unique region – the famine ridges that are still visible in the stone wall fields. Hear the history of the formation of the mountains and bogs. Our guided tours by Roger also offer an insight into the local history of this area which have settlements and burial mounds dating back to over 5000 years old and include the opportunity to see up close old ruins of Connemara cottages. The views of Lough Corrib are some of the best to be seen and offer you a chance to see its islands in all their glory!
